OUR HISTORY
Established in 1896, Child & Family Guidance Center (CFGC) is a registered 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation.
The agency is the oldest child guidance center in Texas and 2nd oldest in the nation. Serving over 12,000 individuals a year, including over 7,500 children, CFGC is a key provider and referral source for mental health and related services in North Texas. CFGC has been a proud service provider of
United Way of Metropolitan Dallas since 1924.
For over 100 years, Child & Family Guidance Center has provided services from childhood through adulthood. Services are provided regardless of age, sex, religion, ethnicity or any other discriminating factor.
OUR GOAL
To equip children, adults and families with the skills and resources needed to reduce the effects of mental illness, child abuse, family violence and high-risk behaviors.

CFGC envisions a future in which all people in North Texas communities have access to needed mental health resources and support systems to ensure a better today and a brighter tomorrow. CFGC is one of only a few local agencies that are designated as a Specialty Provider Network for theprovision of the State of Texas’s authorized mental health services for indigent individuals. As such, CFGC is a key provider and referral source for indigent mental health services in the local community. We have established partnerships with local schools, hospitals, family courts, Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, Texas Department of State Health Services, primary care physicians, United Way, and other social services agencies.
